Jacky O’Shaughness for American Apparel

Last Summer, American Apparel announced that the newest face of their brand would be 60-year-old Jacky O’Shaughnessy. American Apparel is a very well-known brand that gained a lot of notoriety from their countless campaigns involving very young, very attractive individuals wearing very little actual clothing; so it came as a bit of a shock when they announced plans for an “Advanced basics” line, aimed at a more mature demographic than they have ever tried to appeal to before.

In retrospect, stumbling upon Jacky O’Shaughness in a NYC restaurant may have been one of the best breaks American Apparel had in 2012. “There was something so compelling about Jacky’s look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair,” writes the LA-based brand on its Facebook site. Today, O’Shaughness joins a growing group of older models making a name for themselves in an industry dominated by youth. She joined the ranks of iconic beauties like Carmen Dell’Orefice, 81, and Daphne Selfe, 83.

Monitoring Your Health With Your Smart Phone

Technology plays a larger role in peoples lives today than it ever has before. The capabilities of the phones that many of us use each and everyday are significantly more complex and advanced than any personal piece of technology that we’ve had before. While many people debate the pros and cons of a life filled with new gadgets and growing dependence on technology in general, some advances are undeniably great – especially those that have to do with our ability to monitor our health and better take care of ourselves and our loved ones.

Companies and individuals alike are developing countless apps to help us manage our weight, our stress levels and our lives in general; and now, healthcare is becoming more personalized and readily accessible than ever through new technology created to work with our smart phones. One of the best examples of this is the lastest medical gadget from Withings, which works with your smart phone to easily monitor your blood pressure. There are lots of folks out there with high blood pressure that have to keep a close eye on their readings and the Withings Blood Pressure monitor will make that easy.

The Withings Blood Pressure monitor plugs into the bottom of the iPhone into the sync port, and stores readings from the special cuff to an app running on the device. The product includes a cuff with a small pump inside that inflates and deflates when in use in order to get an accurate reading while the user sits back and relaxes. You can then choose to share your the readings on Google Health or Microsoft HealthVault for archiving.

The incredible system will be available by the end of the month, and will sell for about $129.00. You can read more about it by clicking here!
