SABI STRENGTHENS HEALTH AND WELLNESS BUSINESS WITH ACQUISITION OF OMHU

SABI to incorporate award-winning designs as part of new line in strategic expansion

PALO ALTO, CA (June 18th, 2013) – Sabi, a Palo Alto-based company, today announced the acquisition of OMHU, a New York-based design driven business that designs, makes and sells walking canes and other products that support the activities of daily living. OMHU, a private company, is expected to play an important role in the expansion of Sabi’s product offering in the mobility sector. OMHU’s products complement Sabi’s existing range of products which currently include a range of accessories for the daily consumption of vitamins and pills. Founded by entrepreneur Assaf Wand in fall 2009, Sabi fulfills Wand’s mission to offer products that infuse the tasks and rituals of daily life with a sense of delight, while also inspiring users to appreciate life in the moment. This philosophy aligns directly with that of OMHU (Danish for “with great care”) which was founded in 2009 by Rie Nørregaard, Susy Korb and Susan Towers. “We are thrilled that OMHU is joining us. We absolutely love the products and our companies’ objectives are completely aligned,” says Assaf Wand, Founder and CEO of Sabi. “OMHU is to mobility assistance devices what Sabi’s inaugural THRIVE line of pill and vitamin organizers is to low-tech health and wellness commodities. We have both revolutionized these product categories, offering higher quality, more stylish alternatives to the stigmatizing cheap, sterile, geriatric products that currently dominate the market, in an effort to inspire those who use these products to feel great about themselves and their daily tasks.”

As part of the acquisition, Rie Nørregaard, Founder and CEO of OMHU, will be joining the Sabi team as Creative Director. “I am very pleased to join the Sabi team and for OMHU to become part of a company that shares my original vision. OMHU was founded on the belief that life is imperfect and beautiful, and so was Sabi. We are kindred spirits when it comes to our goals – namely, to design high-quality and fashionable options in categories dominated by unstylish, generic products,” says Nørregaard. “My hope is that this acquisition will broaden both OMHU’s and Sabi’s current customer bases and get our wonderful products into the hands of many more people who are as thirsty as we are for beautiful and well-designed things,” she added.

According to the Disability Statistics Center at the University of California in San Francisco, more than 6.8 million people in the U.S. use devices to help them with mobility. These numbers are on the rise, as the U.S. population grays at a faster rate than ever before with
Under the terms of the transaction, Sabi will take full ownership of the company and thus assume ownership of all assets, intellectual property and copyright. Terms were not disclosed. OMHU’s products will be available under the Sabi brand name starting in September 2013.

Jacky O’Shaughness for American Apparel

Last Summer, American Apparel announced that the newest face of their brand would be 60-year-old Jacky O’Shaughnessy. American Apparel is a very well-known brand that gained a lot of notoriety from their countless campaigns involving very young, very attractive individuals wearing very little actual clothing; so it came as a bit of a shock when they announced plans for an “Advanced basics” line, aimed at a more mature demographic than they have ever tried to appeal to before.

In retrospect, stumbling upon Jacky O’Shaughness in a NYC restaurant may have been one of the best breaks American Apparel had in 2012. “There was something so compelling about Jacky’s look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair,” writes the LA-based brand on its Facebook site. Today, O’Shaughness joins a growing group of older models making a name for themselves in an industry dominated by youth. She joined the ranks of iconic beauties like Carmen Dell’Orefice, 81, and Daphne Selfe, 83.

Monitoring Your Health With Your Smart Phone

Technology plays a larger role in peoples lives today than it ever has before. The capabilities of the phones that many of us use each and everyday are significantly more complex and advanced than any personal piece of technology that we’ve had before. While many people debate the pros and cons of a life filled with new gadgets and growing dependence on technology in general, some advances are undeniably great – especially those that have to do with our ability to monitor our health and better take care of ourselves and our loved ones.

Companies and individuals alike are developing countless apps to help us manage our weight, our stress levels and our lives in general; and now, healthcare is becoming more personalized and readily accessible than ever through new technology created to work with our smart phones. One of the best examples of this is the lastest medical gadget from Withings, which works with your smart phone to easily monitor your blood pressure. There are lots of folks out there with high blood pressure that have to keep a close eye on their readings and the Withings Blood Pressure monitor will make that easy.

The Withings Blood Pressure monitor plugs into the bottom of the iPhone into the sync port, and stores readings from the special cuff to an app running on the device. The product includes a cuff with a small pump inside that inflates and deflates when in use in order to get an accurate reading while the user sits back and relaxes. You can then choose to share your the readings on Google Health or Microsoft HealthVault for archiving.

The incredible system will be available by the end of the month, and will sell for about $129.00. You can read more about it by clicking here!
